Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
NyanReader is operated by Smile Chamber, a sole proprietorship based in British Columbia, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains what information NyanReader collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to the NyanReader desktop and mobile applications and this website.
2. The short version
- We collect the minimum needed to run accounts, credits, and translation.
- Your manga files stay on your device. We never upload, store, or distribute them.
- To translate a page, only the text on that page is sent to our translation provider — not the images.
- Our mobile app shows ads (Google AdMob), which use an advertising identifier.
- We do not sell your personal information.
3. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address. Authentication is handled by Supabase using a one-time code sent to that address. We store a profile record containing your email, your credit balance, and a history of credit transactions (grants, purchases, and translation spend).
Page text submitted for translation
When you use the translation feature, NyanReader detects the text on the selected page(s) and transmits that text to our translation provider (xAI) to generate a translation. The original image files are not transmitted. Translated results are returned to your device.
Purchase information
When you buy credits, payment is processed by a third-party payment provider (Stripe for web purchases; the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, via RevenueCat, for mobile purchases). We do not receive or store your full payment card details. We receive a confirmation of the purchase, the bundle purchased, and limited transaction metadata used to credit your account.
Technical and usage information
Like most networked applications, our servers may process basic technical information (such as IP address and request timing) as part of delivering the Service and protecting it from abuse. We may also process aggregate, non-identifying usage information to understand and improve the Service.
Advertising
Our mobile app displays banner ads served by Google AdMob. To show ads, AdMob may access your device's advertising identifier and limited device and usage information, as described in Google's advertising and privacy policies. Ads appear inside the reader. You can reset or limit ad personalization in your device settings (on Android: Settings › Google › Ads). The desktop app and this website do not show ads.
What we do not collect
- We do not upload or store your comic, manga, or manhwa files.
- We do not collect your contacts, location, or device photo library.
4. How we use information
- To create and operate your account and authenticate you.
- To track and apply your credit balance and process purchases.
- To provide the translation feature.
- To display ads in the mobile app.
- To provide customer support.
- To protect the Service against fraud, abuse, and security threats.
- To comply with legal obligations.
5. Service providers
We rely on the following third parties to operate the Service. Each processes data only as needed to provide its function, and is subject to its own privacy terms:
- Supabase — account authentication and database (servers located in the United States).
- Resend — delivery of sign-in code emails.
- xAI — AI translation processing of page text.
- Google AdMob — advertising in the mobile app (uses an advertising identifier).
- Stripe — payment processing for web purchases.
- RevenueCat, Apple App Store, and Google Play Store — payment processing for mobile purchases.
6. International data transfers
Some of our service providers, including Supabase, store and process data on servers located in the United States. By using the Service, you understand that your account information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own.
7. Data retention
We retain your account information and credit transaction history for as long as your account is active. Page text submitted for translation is processed to produce a result and is not retained by us as a long-term record beyond what is needed to deliver and support the feature. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your account information, except where we are required to retain certain records (for example, tax and transaction records) by law.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to request a copy of it. You can request any of these by contacting us at nyanreader@smilechamber.com. You can stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time. Note that deleting your account forfeits any remaining credits.
9. Age and children
NyanReader is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access controls on our database and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
